Review- PT Sir

Film- PT Sir

Director- Karthik Venugopalan

Cast- Hiphop Adhi,Kashmira Pardeshi,Thiagarjan, Anikha Surendran, Ilavarasu, Devadarshini,  Munishkanth, Prabhu, Madhuvanthi.

The plot revolves around Kanagavel a Physical training teacher at a school. It’s about his transformation from a non-assertive man to a  bold aggressive one ,after an issue crops up and he decides to take a stand.

The early moments are breezy and fun filled, with Adhi’s boyish charm and the fun moments he indulges in livening up the narration. In love with colleague Vaanathi (Kashmira, fitting in suitably), he woos her unabashedly. But striking a discordant note in this fluffy scenario is the PT master competing with a student to gain Vaanathi’s attention. Kangavel initiating a ‘magic wall’ in the school where students could write whatever they desired, is a refreshing concept.

In the second half the narrative takes a serious turn, where Kangavel’s character goes for a transformation. Nandhini a family friend’s daughter and a college student (Anikha), is assaulted by some rowdy elements. When constant harassments follow,  Kanagavel decides to play the avenger. He confronts and takes on the powerful GP (Thiagarajan, coolly menacing), the chairman of the educational institutions and the villain of the piece. The courtroom scene that follows is a simplistic one, the director taking cinematic liberty in the twist that the story takes. Adhi’s peppy songs and background score complement the mood and feel.

Sexual harassment of women, where the victim, rather than the perpetrators get blamed for the act; Empowerment of women; society’s perception and judgment of women who fall prey to sexual assaults, and the mental trauma of the helpless victim herself are all touched on. Getting more scope and space, Anikha renders a fine performance.

Far better scripted than Adhi’s recent releases, ‘PT Sir’ (130 minutes) is a fairly engaging watch.
